Innovation Hub Graphic Designer & Communications Assistant (CLNx ID:253383)

What it is

The Graphic Designer & Communications Assistant creates all the digital communications content for the Innovation Hub. The role includes original graphic designs for reports, presentations, and digital communications channels. The role may also include website design, blog writing, photography, and videography. The Graphic Designer & Communications Assistant works under the direction of the Communications & Operations Lead, bringing to life content produced within project teams with visual imagery, media, and infographics. This role involves creating professional reports and presentations of design research data, iconography, promotional materials, blog posts, website content, and more.

The role may also entail special projects, developing creative materials outside of the scope of design research projects. An important note: at the Innovation Hub we have a full graphic design process where all of our visuals are original designs. We start with mood boards and move to sketching and eventually digitizing using Adobe Illustrator. Experience or familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and a portfolio with graphic designs are required for this role.

Qualifications

  • Exemplary graphic design abilities using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
  • Strong communication abilities to share creative ideas and understand others’ creative ideas about how to translate abstract concepts into visual imagery
  • Demonstrated ability to organize one’s own work and manage tight and often competing deadlines
  • Collaborative and iterative mindset to approach unique problems, keeping in mind the audience with the ability to receive and apply constructive feedback
  • Working knowledge of creating accessibility documents and visual materials
  • Experience using design software such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Figma
  • Experience with multimedia content creation such as photography, videography, and creative writing
  • Experience designing webpages using WordPress or equivalent website software
  • Ability to self-organize and manage tight and often competing deadlines
  • Positive energy, enthusiasm, adaptable, and imaginative
  • Desire to enhance the student experience at U of T
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Portfolio submission is required for applying to this role

Technology Resources Required

Students are required to have a working laptop or device that can connect to the internet with the ability to access MS Office 365.

Job Details

  • Contract Length: [Date range]
  • Hours: 6 – 8 hours per week, in-person
  • Wage: $17.20/hour
